The Rights of the Reader

Encouraged by an article in the recent issue of info@aslansw - the newsletter of the Australian School Library Assn (NSW) - I read ‘The Rights of the Reader’ by Daniel Pennac and translated by Sarah Adams.
According to Pennac, reading is a right and tireless deconstruction is not reading. He says that we need to understandis that books weren’t written so that young people could write essays about them, but so that they could read them if they really want to.
I wanted to read this book.

During Term 1, the Year 5 children wrote some poems. In Week 2 of this term a one day poetry workshop was performed by Di Bates with all the Year 5 students. Following is a selection of their ideas from the workshop.
